저는 스트레스를 받을 때마다 조물주가 만든 신선한 공기와 생명의 흙과 싱그러운 푸른 나무와 그리고 푸르른 초원을 그리워하곤 합니다. 비단 저 뿐만이 아닐 것입니다. 자연은 우리에게 신비로운 치유력을 주는 것은 다 아는 사실일 것입니다. 다만 우리가 자연의 고마움을 때때로 망각하며 세상의 개발논리에 설득 당한 후에야 과거의 자연 그대로의 상태를 그리워하기도 합니다.

오늘 아침, 신문에서 ‘세계 최초 텃밭버스’라는 기사를 발견했습니다. 녹지공간이 점점 없어지는 것을 안타깝게 생각하다 발상의 전환을 통해 이런 기발한 아이디어를 낸 사람은 조경사 ‘마크 그라넨(Marc Granen)’이라는 사람입니다. 스페인 히로나에서 운행하는 버스지붕 위에 텃밭을 꾸며 놓아 일명 ‘광합성 버스’인 ’피토키네틱(Phyto Kinetic)’이라고 부르는 버스라고 합니다.

이 버스는 탄소 배출량도 감소시키고 실내온도도 평균 3.5도를 내리면서 에어컨에서 나오는 물로 수분을 공급한답니다. 그야말로 일석삼조(一石三鳥)의 효과를 보는, 그야말로 자연과 과학의 융합이라는 생각이 듭니다.

‘피토케네틱’ 버스가 달리는 모습을 상상하며 맛있는 고구마나 아름다운 꽃으로 장식한 버스가 서울 시내에서도 볼 수 있기를 바랍니다. 회색 빛 도시 안에서 "움직이는 자연"을 바라볼 수만 있어도 다소나마 행복할 것 같습니다.

Whenever I am stressed out, I turn my attention to the fresh air, the soil of life, and green trees and fields. I"m pretty certain I am not the only one since it is not a surprise to anyone that the nature has the mysterious power of healing. It"s just that we normally take its value for granted. It is until being persuaded by the human logic of development when we realize that we miss the nature in its original state.

This morning I found an article about "the world"s very first garden bus." The person behind this creative idea was Marc Granen, a landscaper who felt regretful about the lack of green zones in the city. Operated in Girona, Spain, the bus is called "Phyto Kinetic" because of its green garden on top of the bus.

This bus emits less carbon, keeps the bus cool with air conditioning system, and with the water created by the cooling system, the plants on the rooftop are watered.

I dream of the day I can see these buses in Seoul carrying delicious sweet potatoes or beautiful flowers on their roofs. Watching "the moving nature" in this gray city will be quite a pleasant view.
